One thing I’ve noticed since being diagnosed with cancer is the animosity between conventional and alternative approaches to the disease. It can be quite contentious, no doubt because the stakes are so high. The lines are drawn: Western vs. Eastern; big business vs. folk culture; MDs vs. doctors of chiropractic, naturopathy and homeopathy; pharmaceuticals vs. herbs. Both sides in this civil war have their weaknesses and blind spots.

Conventional medicine is misguided when it treats the human body as a machine to be serviced by white-coated mechanics. We are complex creatures who are much more than the sum of our parts. With apologies to Renee Descartes, our minds do influence our bodies in profound ways. The medical establishment is also remiss in not focusing more on prevention as the first line of defense against disease and in not seeing nutrition as a vital part of treatment.

Alternative medicine is dangerous whenever it touts exotic cure-alls. There are no magic elixirs that can put everything right, even if they do come from a prehistoric valley in Utah (Dr. Wallach’s colloidal minerals) or from Himalayan-grown amalaki (Zrii), or from the inner leaf of the Aloe Vera plant (Ambrotose). Proper diet is central to maintaining or restoring good health, but not every medical condition can be fixed orally.

Dr. Ralph Moss offers sage advice in his CancerDecisions.com newsletter:

“Cancer is a complex disease. It requires professional help. Regardless of the sometimes uncaring attitude of certain errant members of the medical profession, one should not reject everything that conventional medicine has to offer in favor of a regimen discovered on the Internet. The answer is not simply to construct a do-it-yourself program, but to find expert and sympathetic guidance in the rapidly expanding realm of complementary oncology.”

I like the term “complimentary.” It is built into the approach of the Memorial Cancer Center where I am a client. (I am not a patient, but more on that in another post.) They proclaim, “By integrating complimentary therapies with traditional medicine, we will take a holistic approach to cancer medicine that addresses patients’ physical, emotional and spiritual needs.”

A dose of humility is in order for professionals of every stripe. When it comes to medicine no one has all the answers; everyone is still practicing.

I won’t be able to change the nomenclature of the medical profession but I refer to myself as a client, not a patient. By definition, a patient is “One who receives medical attention or treatment.” The archaic meaning was “One who suffers,” from the Latin verb meaning “to endure.” A client on the other hand is “The party for which professional services are rendered.”

Catch the nuance? A patient is the object of medical care; a client is the subject of medical services. In language as in life, an object is passive, a subject is active.

A patient complies with the experts. A client consults the experts, then follows what seems the best advice.

A patient might complain but would never contradict an authority. A client will ask questions and weigh alternatives before deciding.

A patient goes where sent and does not change doctors or clinics. A client tries to find the best physicians and facilities realistically available.

A patient asks “What?” A client asks “Why?”

Being a client takes a lot more work. I have to educate myself about my condition and treatment options. It’s a daunting but doable task thanks to the Internet. There are plenty of reputable sites with reliable information the average person can understand.

Oncologists know a shipload more about lymphoma than do its sufferers, but they don’t know everything. It’s impossible to keep up with the ocean of new information. A dialogue with a well-informed client could suggest new possibilities to a thoughtful physician.

When I see Dr. Kurbegov, my oncologist, I’ll ask if radioimmunotherapy is an option for my type of lymphoma based on an article I read in the New York Times. I’ll ask about any clinical trials for which I might be a candidate, especially those sponsored by the MD Anderson Cancer Center where Dr. Kurbegov was a Chief Fellow.

I’m not trying to play doctor or impress anyone with my research skills. I’m just trying to understand my cancer and to be proactive in eradicating it. After all, it’s my life.

“The People” have had enough apparently!

An “insider” revealed today that the “World of Medicine” is scamming people – and even worse: with the help of “law-makers!”

It seems that “money” (as usual) has blinded doctors and medical practitioners to the degree that they are now willingly *suppressing* the truth regarding cancer – its control, management, and even its cure!

That’s right: “cure!”

And what should shock you even more:

It seems that it’s against the law to say the word “cure” when describing anything that actually cures you.

Yet it’s very much okay to say that something “treats” or helps “offset” the symptoms of some health condition or disease.

But if you say “cure” (and even including when you in fact have a real and bona fide cure for something and can even prove it!) you can get arrested.

Ever wonder why we have a “healthcare” industry and not a “healthcure” industry?

It’s simply because no one’s out to “cure” anyone because there’s little money in doing so.

Instead, keeping you sick and marginally pain-free is all anyone’s really out to do for you these days – as doing so means you being “forced” to buy all the same drugs over and over again, and again, and … (you get the point!)

Of course, if a cure came along it would mean you buy it one time, and then you’re cured – and that’s that (over and done!)

But a number of doctors, philanthropists, and just plain old “good folks” armed with “real answers” and “real solutions” are stepping up and are NOT afraid of “Uncle Big-Bully Brother!”

One courageous fellow by the name of Melford Bibens, CPT, is doing exactly this, as he’s helped many people overcome “naturally” the dreaded disease of Cancer!

Not only that, but Melford has lectured and personally helped individuals beat the disease to the point that proven sufferers have actually gotten re-diagnoses as “no longer having the disease at all!” (Something that’s pretty much always been ruled out as a possibility altogether! – and now which may even be against the law!)

But it’s not certain how long Melford will be allowed to do this because “Uncle Sambo” has actually started using “Gestapo” tactics whereby people and businesses truly offering “cures” have been raided with masked armed police who even go to the point of forcing customers in the stores to get down on the floor at gunpoint!

So, if you’re wise and want to find out about this while it’s still possible for you to do so, then just visit this link now:

Someone told you that you could cure diabetes by becoming a vegetarian.

So, do you really think you have the body of an Herbivore?

Giraffes, Cows, Water Buffalo, American Bison, Goats, Big Horned Sheep, llamas, Antelopes, you get the idea.

Mother Nature equipped these plant-eating, real vegetarians with one stomach but, with 4 distinct chambers. (Camels and some other ruminants have three Stomachs.)

The answer is always balance. Well, we just might be “near-vegetarians.” The East Indian Culture has struck a healthy compromise here.

Let’s ask “Mother Nature,” and look at HER book on “What worked for Primitive People.” Animal protein was hard to catch, but it was in the diet. Let’s talk about that.

Earlier in the 20th century, when there were primitive tribes of people, living closer to nature they were more likely to be near-vegetarians. They generally had to be, because without modern technology, it was difficult to have meat much of the time. If it is true that high fat and high cholesterol diets cause degenerative diseases like diabetes and clearly heart disease, then we should expect to have seen very little heart disease in all those early primitive countries that had low fat/ low cholesterol diets. And that is exactly what we did find.

On the other hand, it is an accident of civilization that the more advanced a culture is, the more fat and cholesterol its people tend to eat. Advanced countries have more animal meat to eat, and even worse, the animal meat in advanced countries contains far more fat than wild animal meat.

What researchers found.

In 25 cultures examined in which the people had low fat and low cholesterol diets, no example of a high incidence of heart disease was found. It should be pointed out that these primitive people often had very little fat and cholesterol in their diets compared to us. While our diet is around 42 percent fat, theirs was often less than 10 percent fat. That is quite a difference. A diet with that little fat is practically unheard of in this country, and it is quite difficult to obtain such a meal in any restaurant.

Let us consider a couple of the primitive peoples that have been studied. Practically the entire lower half of Africa used to be populated by a race of people known as the Bantu. The Bantus give us an ideal group of people to study because their diet was a primitive low fat/low cholesterol one, and there were so many Bantus to study: more than 50 million of these fine healthy people. As you might expect from what has already been stated, heart disease is almost nonexistent among Bantus.

In the light of what is now known, the low-fat diet emerges as significant component of a healthy diet by which one can work to prevent and control the complex of degenerative diseases like heart disease and diabetes, in most cases. Clearly in a culture of such highly “Processed Foods,” supplements are almost essential for good health.

Complex Carbohydrates

Focusing on a diabetic diet, a “near-vegetarian” diet might be a great place to start, but a diabetic diet is still a more complex issue. The greater secret in a diabetic diet seems to be in the management of your intake of only Complex Carbohydrates instead of simple carbohydrates. But that is another subject.

The very term “High Blood Pressure” is related to the cardiovascular system of the human anatomy. Generally known as hypertension, high blood pressure is a condition that indicates the damage of cardiovascular system, resulting in the development of heart attack, stroke, heart failure and arterial aneurysm. Majority of African-Americans, middle-aged and elderly people, obese people, heavy drinkers, women who administer birth control pills are more prone to high blood pressure.

High Blood Pressure: Change in the lifestyle is the root cause:
It is pertinent to take preventive measures to keep your blood pressure under control. Undoubtedly, there are no such figures that indicate the normal blood pressure. But researchers have considered somewhere between 110/70 and 125/80 is normal for the healthy person. Anything lower or higher than the said figures could cause either low blood pressure or high blood pressure. Blood pressure can be affected by several factors and the most noteworthy cause is the change in the lifestyle. The moment you are adapted to different environmental condition, there is every possibility of changing in the food habit, and thus causing unsteadiness in the flow of the blood. However, in certain cases the impact of some medications also leads to high blood pressure in the human body.

Whatever may be the reason, you should take steps to keep your blood pressure under control. Researchers indicate that a healthy eating habit can maintain a balance in the blood pressure. They emphasize in the intake of fruits, vegetables, low fat dairy foods, whole grains, poultry, fish, nuts, red meats, sweets, and sugared beverages. For someone with high blood, the doctor may advice eating less salt and sodium. In fact, lower-sodium diets can help prevent blood pressure from rising and help blood pressure medicines work well. However, it is established that increase in the body weight may develop high blood pressure. So, it is recommended to keep your body fit and normal.

If you fail to control the rising flow of blood pressure in spite of changing your lifestyle, it is suggested to seek immediate medical intervention. Delay in the treatment may lead to death either from stroke or heart attack.
